Tea mugs are really nice when you want a quick cuppa and do not have time for the full works. They are tall and deep enough for the teabag to steep comfortably in the hot water. They are especially practical when you are alone and want to settle in with a good book. It is much easier to transport a tea mug to your cozy corner as there is no need for a saucer.
These mugs from Roy Kirkham are dainty and just the perfect size. They are 2½ inches in diameter and 3½ inches tall. The tea stays warm longer because of the smaller diameter.

I usually prefer teacups as mugs tend to be chunky, heavy and have thicker rims than teacups. These however are rather dainty and I do like the thumb rests and the relatively thin rim. The roses are gorgeous – love the dusky, powdery tones. One thing is true though, tea stays warm longer in a mug, especially narrower ones like these
Yes, most mugs are pretty big. These are just the right size. They are not heavy at all and it is nice to wrap your hands around them on a cold morning.
Biren, I collect Roy Kirkham mugs … it is a shame to call them a mug as they are so light and thin … you are correct when you say how nice they are to cozy up and enjoy a cup of good tea while reading a good book.
I found all of mine at either TJMaxx or Marshalls … I have given several away as gifts to friends and poor unsuspecting Ladies who I decided need to learn about how good loose tea can be and these mugs help the modern Lady (some are turned off by a cup/saucer) get acquainted.
I also make Tea Kits for gifts to friends (you can find beautiful boxes at Hobby Lobby when they are 1/2 price, not the cardboard kind but the decorative wooden/fancy to plain ones) … each kit contains Loose teas, filters, timer, correct size tea scoop, Roy Kirkham mug, cute spoon with rose at end of handle and depends on how close we are … a lace table topper.
I also travel with anywhere from one to 3 tea cases for myself depending on where and how long I will be gone … being a tea lover is such fun and sharing makes it all the more enjoyable …
Hugs from one tea lover to another
These mugs are a favorite of mine and I use them quite often. I love the fact that they are smaller and more dainty than a regular mug. They are so handy when you don;t want to fuss with a saucer.
Your tea kits sound wonderful! It is such a lovely and thoughtful gift. I am sure whoever receives them must enjoy them very much. You are so right about the love of tea being much more fun when shared.
Hugs back to you.
